Brown tips never look nice on plants. They make her appear sick and stunted. Cyprus grass is increasingly found in living spaces. Read below why and what you can do about it!
Why does my Cyprus grass have brown tips?
Brown tips on Cyprus grass are often caused by insufficient humidity, strong sunlight or pest infestation. This can be remedied by regular spraying with water, slowly getting used to sunlight and soapy water against pests.
Main reason number 1: too low humidity
Brown tips on Cyprus grass are more common in the autumn and winter months. The reason is the running heaters, which significantly reduce the humidity. This harms the Cyprus grass – regardless of what type it is.
Not only high humidity is necessary. Even if the substrate is too dry, the Cyprus grass reacts sensitively. It shows discoloration of the leaves up to dried tips of the leaves.
Spray regularly with water
To ensure high humidity, you should spray the Cyprus grass with water as care - especially in the winter months when there is heating. To do this, use a simple water atomizer. The water you use should be low in lime (stale) and room temperature.
Fill plant pots and coasters with water
In addition to regularly watering the soil and spraying the leaves, it is advisable to place the plant in a planter or on a saucer when grown in pots. The planter or coaster must be filled with water. This creates waterlogging that does not harm the Cyprus grass. Alternatively, you can also keep your plant hydroponically.
Main reason number 2: too much sunlight
Another reason for brown tips on the leaves can be too intense sunlight. The leaves burn due to the UV light. This can occur quickly, especially with young plants and those specimens outdoors in full sun. You can prevent this by slowly accustoming the young plants to the sunlight at their location.
Major reason number 3: Pest infestation
Pests can also cause brown leaf tips:
- Spider mites and thrips are appearing more and more
- Spider mites: on the leaves, stalks and in the leaf axils
- Other discolorations of the leaves can (also) occur
- for thrips: similar symptoms
- z. E.g. fight with soapy water
Tip
If the air humidity has been regulated upwards, the probability of pest infestation decreases.
