How can I overwinter a Spanish daisy in a pot?
In order to successfully overwinter a Spanish daisy in a pot, it needs a bright, cool location (0-5°C), regular ventilation and economical watering. A suitable winter quarters can be a winter garden, greenhouse or a gazebo.
The requirements for the winter quarters
The Spanish daisy (also known as Mexican fleabane) in the pot needs a change of location in the fall so that it should still look fit next year. The wintering quarters should be as follows:
- bright
- cool (0 to 5 °C)
- ventilate regularly
- well suited among others: winter gardens, greenhouses, gazebos
Care in winter is limited to sparing watering and regular checking for pests. After overwintering, the perennial is cut down by 2/3. Slowly get them used to the direct sun again!
Tip
If you can't find a suitable location for overwintering, you can plant the perennial in a pot and protect it or wrap it with fleece and place it on the wall of the house.
