In order to grow hops in the garden, you need a climbing aid such as trellises with narrow rods or taut wires. Always guide the hop tendrils to the right around the climbing aid so that growth is not stopped.
It doesn't work without a trellis
As a climbing plant, hops form long tendrils that grow up to seven meters or even longer. Without support the plant would languish on the ground. In nature, hops grow up trees and bushes.
In the garden you need to provide a climbing aid. You can use all trellises (€279.00 on Amazon) with narrow rods. If no trellis is available, hops can also be grown on taut wires.
Hop vines must always be guided to the right around the trellis. If they are placed inside out, the hops will stop growing.
Tip
Hops are very decorative as a privacy screen in summer. The leaves are similar to vine leaves. While the flowers are rather inconspicuous, the green-yellow cones appear in late summer, which you can even harvest.
