Pipe morning glories are easy to propagate yourself. If you already care for a plant in the garden or in a container, all you need is some seeds, a few cuttings or you can lower a few shoots. This is how pipe bindweed propagates.
How can I successfully propagate a pipe bindweed?
Pipe morning glories can be propagated by sowing, cuttings and planters. Sow seeds in spring, cut cuttings from young shoots and plant them in potting soil, or lower shoots outdoors and transplant them the following year.

Sowing pipe vines
In local regions, pipe vines do not bloom very profusely. Seeds therefore only form sparsely, if at all. If your pipe bindweed bears fruit with seeds, pick them off and allow the seeds to dry. Attention: The seeds of the pipe bindweed are highly poisonous!
Sow them in small seed pots in spring and cover them with soil. Until emergence, the pots should be wrapped in cling film to keep the humidity constant.
Place the pots in a bright and warm place. A sunny window with temperatures of up to 25 degrees is ideal.
Cut cuttings
Propagation is easier via cuttings. Cut cuttings 15 centimeters long from one- or two-year-old shoots. Remove the lower leaves and place the shoot pieces in prepared pots with potting soil.
Place the pots in a bright, warm, wind-protected place. Keep the soil well moist. You will notice that the cuttings have formed roots when new leaves sprout.
As soon as the pot is well rooted, you can put the morning glory outdoors or in a pot.
Propagate pipe vines using lowering tools
The easiest way to propagate pipe morning glories in the open field is via planters in early summer. Choose a shoot that is not too old and can be bent down to the ground.
Loosen the soil next to the morning glory. Score the shoot several times and place it on the loosened soil. The tendril is then covered with soil. Tent pegs (€7.00 on Amazon) are well suited to fixing the lowering rod in the ground. The shoot tip must protrude from the ground.
The following spring the shoot has developed roots and can be placed in the desired location.
Tip
Pipe morning glories are robust and hardy. Pre-grown plants from the garden center can be planted out as early as March. However, it is better to wait until it gets a little warmer before planting your own plants.
