The prospects of a successful repetition of the flower spectacle are significantly improved if you choose the perfect planter and a balanced substrate mixture. We would like to recommend these options to you:
- The space capacity in the pot is such that a thumb's width fits between the tuber and the edge
- An opening in the bottom of the pot serves as a drain for excess irrigation water
- The substrate is a mixture of humus and mineral components
In its South American homeland, the knight's star thrives for several years in well-drained soil that has little humus and plenty of inorganic components. A mix of potting soil and cactus soil in equal parts has proven to work well.
How to move successfully step by step

- Fill the substrate mixture halfway up the bucket
- Plant the onion in the middle so that only half of it is in the ground
Before you use the Ritterstern, dried and rotten root strands should be removed with disinfected scissors. Press the soil firmly and water from below. This approach has the advantage that the exposed part of the onion does not come into contact with water. When placed in a bright, warm location at 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, the first buds don't take long to appear.
