Talking about garden showers this summer is a bit risky, but since this topic is also related to our article “Weed Control”, we would like to see the current practical test that the DIY journal “seluch ist der Mann” is currently publishing has, at least briefly touch on it. Nevertheless, irrigation can still play an important role in the garden in August and into September.
How do garden showers perform in the test?
In the test of garden showers by the DIY journal “selb ist der Mann”, three brands received a “very good”, six were rated “good” and four achieved a “satisfactory”. Good garden sprayers are available from just 10 euros, with branded devices being easier to clean and all working with the Gardena click system.
After all, the new strawberry plants want to be in the ground for the next gardening year, perennials are being transplanted and the freshly sown lawn likes it to be a little wetter until it germinates. The green showers will therefore be in great demand in the coming weeks and 15 of them were closely examined by the professional testers.
Sophisticated and practical test criteria
The workmanship, ergonomics and the range of the emerging spray jet were checked, among other things. Also important were the output quantities of the various makes, an overpressure test regarding their tightness at higher water pressure and a drop test of the syringes, which was intended to cause surprises, especially with the branded devices. Ten of the garden showers tested (€25.00 at Amazon) can also be used for cleaning purposes in the house, yard and garden or for removing dirt from vehicles thanks to their variably adjustable water jet. The brands were also represented by manufacturers such as Gardena, Lifetime Garden, Kärcher, Neptun (Bauhaus own brand), Metabo, MBS, Lux Tools, Sirocco, Rehau and Takagi, everything that has a reputation in the gardening guild.
The test results at a quick overview
In the “Garden Showers” category, three brands were awarded “very good”, six of the devices still had so few complaints that a “good” was included in the test protocols and four candidates scored “satisfactory” in the practical test "away. A showerhead in the higher-priced range broke during the drop test, which justifiably earned it a “poor” rating, and the cheapest model (grade “unsatisfactory”) ensured that the testers got just as wet during their work as the watered plants. The garden sprayers received one “very good”, six “good” and three “satisfactory” ratings. In addition, the test editors came to the very important findings from a consumer perspective that:
- Good garden sprayers are available from specialist retailers for around 10.00 euros;
- There are significant differences in the setting options for continuous operation and throwing distances;
- Branded devices can be opened and cleaned very easily without additional tools;
- All garden sprayers with the click system introduced by Gardena work.
