Plump, juicy green leaves are the most beautiful decoration on money trees, jade bushes and other succulents. If succulent leaves become soft, it's not just the striking appearance of the exotic houseplants that is affected. The damage indicates a life-threatening deficit in care. Find out what it is here.
Why do succulent leaves become soft?
Soft leaves on succulents indicate a lack of water. To fix the problem, check if the substrate has dried out. In such cases, water the plant sufficiently or repot it. Regular watering is necessary from April to September, but in winter the water supply is reduced to a minimum.
Soft leaves on succulents signal lack of water
The pleas for a reserved water supply lead home gardeners to water their succulents far too rarely. Especially in summer, these bizarre beauties suffer from soft leaves as their water supplies are running out. How to solve the problem:
- First check whether the substrate has actually dried out
- Place succulent in bone-dry soil in soft water until no more air bubbles appear
- Alternatively, repot in fresh soil and water properly from now on
Succulents also need to be watered regularly from April to September. Only during winter dormancy does the water supply reduce to a minimum.
