In contrast to other basket marant species such as Calathea lancifolia, the leaves of the non-poisonous Calathea rufibarba are monochrome. If cared for well, it produces beautiful flowers that often bloom for many weeks.

The flowers of Calathea rufibarba appear in June to August in a bright yellow, tubular shape, arranged in clusters. For successful flowering, the plant needs a partially shaded location and high humidity of at least 80 percent.
