Granite is not only durable but also elegant. This is an excellent way to create a bed border. Stone flower bed borders are quite popular. Once installed, they hardly require any work, in contrast to a wooden border, which has to be replaced occasionally.
How do you set granite stones for a bed border?
To place granite stones for a bed border, you should dig a narrow trench along the bed (depth: stone height + 5 cm, width: stone width), fill in about 5 cm of sand, insert granite stones and tap into place with a rubber mallet. For higher borders, the fastening should be done with concrete.
Which granite stones are suitable for a bed border?
Granite stones are available in different sizes and designs, all of which are in principle more or less suitable for a bed border. Depending on your plans, you should choose a different version. For a narrow edge that is embedded in the floor, you can definitely use the 10/10/9 format. For a higher edge, it is better to use larger paving stones.
Where can I buy granite stones?
Granite can be bought in the form of paving or boundary edges from specialist retailers (hardware stores, building materials stores or garden supplies), but you can also easily order it online (€44.00 on Amazon). Then you don't have to transport the heavy stones yourself.
How do I use granite stones as a bed border?
If you would like to place a granite mowing edge around your lawn, then all you have to do is lay the stones in a row at ground level. All it takes is an excavation of earth the same height as the stones to be laid plus around five centimeters for a bed of sand. Gently tap the granite stones into place with a rubber mallet.
It is better to set a higher border made of small stones in concrete so that it does not tip over or become crooked over time. Place larger stones about halfway into the ground so that they will hold under moderate load even without concrete.

Is there a cheap alternative to granite?
Unfortunately, granite is not exactly cheap to buy, in contrast to plastic or cast stone. Both are also available in a more or less well-made granite look. You can take a look at these materials at the hardware store. However, keep in mind that plastic is often only weatherproof for a limited time.
Tip
If you want a weather-resistant bed border, then granite is ideal.
