Why should you buy a refined wisteria?
A grafted wisteria offers advantages such as earlier and more lush flowering, greater robustness and faster growth. Both seed-grown and grafted forms are available commercially. Grafting sites should be above the ground and shoots below should be removed.
What is the use of finishing?
A grafted wisteria is more robust and blooms earlier and often more beautifully than a non-grafted plant that may have been grown from seeds. So if you value early and lush flowering, then you're better off buying a refined wisteria.
How are plants refined?
Various methods are available for refining plants. In general, however, a part of another (more noble) plant is placed or transplanted onto a so-called base. In this way, the plant planted is propagated vegetatively, in principle cloned. In contrast to propagation by cuttings, wisteria created in this way reaches an acceptable size and its first flowering period relatively quickly.
What do I have to pay attention to when buying a wisteria?
In stores you will find both seedlings and various refined forms of wisteria. Some species can only be purchased as a refinement, and these are usually marked as such.
It's definitely worth checking that too. The finishing point is usually above ground level. If you have bought a grafted wisteria, you should consistently cut off all shoots that sprout below the grafting point.
Can I refine a wisteria myself?
Since wisteria is difficult to grow from cuttings, the question quickly arises as to whether grafting it in the home garden might make more sense. This project is not advisable, at least for beginners in gardening. Instead, try propagation by planting plants.
