Cultivating angel trumpets is more for more experienced hobby gardeners. However, their propagation does not pose a major challenge even for beginners. The cutting method works completely problem-free here – even simply with water.
How do I propagate angel trumpet cuttings in water?
Angel trumpet cuttings are easy to propagate in water: place the cut cutting in a glass of water, change the water regularly to avoid rot, and wait 2-3 weeks for tender roots to form.
Rooting angel trumpet cuttings in water
The easiest way to propagate an angel trumpet is to use the usual cutting method. The success rate here is extremely high and is therefore preferable to seed propagation (unless you want to breed new varieties). Normally you let a cutting that is cleanly cut from the flowering region grow in a pot with potting soil (€6.00 on Amazon) - this way it can connect its roots to a soil substrate straight away.
Angel trumpet cuttings can also simply form their own roots in a glass of water. The advantage of this variant: You no longer need to worry about the cuttings, at least when it comes to keeping them moist. Instead, you just have to wait the 2-3 weeks until it has first formed knobby roots and then a tender root system from these.
However, the rooting water should be changed every now and then. Otherwise there is a risk of rot.
