Only the right location can produce an oak tree that exploits the full potential of its genes. Since you don't transplant an old tree, it should be found when you plant it. What should you pay attention to?

Which location is suitable for an oak tree?

The ideal location for an oak tree offers plenty of light, space, loose soil and has fresh, mineral-rich soil, such as loamy soil. The pH value should be slightly acidic to slightly basic. Large trees or buildings should not provide shade.

Light and space are important factors

The oak loves the light of the sun like no other tree. Your location must therefore not also provide space for other trees or buildings to provide shade.

When planting, remember that the oak can grow up to 40 m tall, depending on the variety. The crown then easily reaches a diameter of more than 15 m.

Loose soil for deep roots

The oak forms deep taproots. A loose soil makes it easy for them to penetrate deep into the soil and provide a large tree with water and nutrients.

  • Fresh, mineral-rich soil is ideal
  • for example a clayey soil
  • pH value may be slightly acidic to slightly basic

Tip

Soils that are too barren can be optimized with peat (€15.00 on Amazon) before planting.
