How do I plant old rubber boots?
To plant rubber boots, first drill holes in the sole for drainage. Optionally you can paint the boots. Then fill a third with pebbles, then another third with garden soil and insert the plants.

You shouldn't just dump soil into your boots and plant plants. Planting rubber boots also requires some preparation. To do this you need:

1. Ensure drainage
Drainage is the be-all and end-all of a good flower pot, even if it is shaped like rubber boots. Now you may think that you don't overwater and therefore don't need drainage. But you don't want to put your boots in the apartment, do you? It's raining outside and the rainwater must be able to drain away, otherwise the plants will rot due to waterlogging. So grab a cordless drill (€49.00 on Amazon) and use it to drill several holes in the sole of your rubber boots.
2. Optional: Painting
Rubber boots are naturally waterproof, that's what they're there for. Therefore, the paint serves less to protect them from moisture but rather has a decorative purpose. If you like things colorful or shabby-chic, you can paint your boots pretty. To do this, first roughen the smooth surface all around so that the color lasts. Now you can either paint the rubber boots in one color or spray on a white base color and then shade it with other colors to create a shabby effect.
3. Fill boots
Fill the boots one third full with pebbles. These ensure stability and good drainage. Then add another third of garden soil into the boot.
4. Plant plants
Now place the plants in the boots and fill the free space with soil. Make sure that there is at least two centimeters of watering space between the edge of the rubber boot and the soil.
