How to avoid mosquitoes at the pond?

Why the garden pond?
Adult mosquitoes can be found both in garden ponds and in the grass. However, the insects prefer to be close to water because they find ideal opportunities to breed here. If the water temperature is around 15°C, the larvae develop under the best conditions. This creates a cycle that can become a real plague in the long run.

- Manual Removal
- Fish
- Planting
- fly screen
- Fountain
Manual Removal
Although it is a bit difficult to fish the larvae out of the water, in small populations it is certainly the cheapest option to contain the spread. In the early stages, the larvae swim on the surface of the water, where you can attack them with a simple landing net. You recognize the insect larvae

Planting

It doesn't settle in any particular place, but rather wanders around in the pond. It is also recommended to buy plants that attract dragonflies. Because these insects also feed on mosquitoes. Suitable are, for example,
- hornwort
- or the Eurasian Milfoil
fly screen
A fly screen is only suitable if there are no fish living in your pond. They stretch the fine-mesh net over the surface of the water and thus prevent the mosquitoes from accessing their breeding site. Look for UV-safe material. Another advantage is that you don't have to fish leaves out of the garden pond in autumn.
Fountain
Mosquitoes only feel comfortable on smooth water surfaces. A small fountain looks very good in your pond - both practical and visual.
