The Botanical Garden of the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel has been a place for biological teaching since 1669. Covering an area of around eight hectares, around 3,000 square meters of which are under glass, it offers a fascinating overview of the earth's plant we alth.

Visitor information
The Kiel Botanical Garden is open all year round. With the exception of special events, attendance is free.

in your navigation system. You will find the “Bremerskamp” parking lot near the entrance to Leibnizstrasse.
If you prefer public transport, use bus lines 50, 60S or 81 and get off at the final stop “Botanischer Garten”.
The Kiel Botanical Garden is located on the new Veloroute 10. Leave this at the northern end and continue along the Olof-Palme-Damm and you will reach directly to the “entrance towards Westring”, where you will find bicycle racks.
Description
The Kiel Botanical Garden invites you to take long walks through the approximately ten kilometer long network of paths. Travel through the earth's abundance of plants in just a few steps and, in addition to the exotic plants of Asia, Africa and America, discover the diversity of our native moorland, forest, dune and heath landscapes.
The heat-loving plants of desert and tropical areas have found their home in greenhouses. Numerous species of ferns, ancient cycads, orange and lemon trees thrive here. In the spacious medicinal garden you can get to know and sniff out a wide variety of herbs and their effects.
The plants in the Kiel Botanical Garden not only serve to educate students at the affiliated university, they are also the subject of a wide range of scientific studies. If you are interested in the results of these studies, you can find out more about them at the exhibitions and lectures that are held regularly.
Tip
Located in the far north, the Alpinum of the Kiel Botanical Garden is home to over 2,500 mountain plant species. In addition to alpine plants, these are plants native to the Himalayas, the Caucasus, South Africa and New Zealand.
