Tiger lotus grows in aquariums in this country. The plant must find support in the water so that it does not float upwards. But not everyone knows how deep the tuber is buried and whether there is an up and a down. We'll clarify.
How do you plant a tiger lotus in the aquarium?
To plant a tiger lotus in the aquarium, place the tuber with the navel facing down, dig it halfway into nutrient-rich soil and fix it with stones if necessary. Be careful with young plants with leaves and roots without letting the tuber fall off.
Check living conditions first
Just having an aquarium is not enough! The water in it should be soft, slightly acidic and rich in carbon dioxide. There should also be a clear water current. Keeping Tiger Lotus is only worthwhile if you can offer these conditions.
The red tiger lotus likes nutrient-rich soil and needs very good lighting conditions for its red underwater leaves. For the Green Tiger Lotus, however, the soil can consist of pure sand and moderate lighting conditions are sufficient for it.
The best pelvic area
Tiger lotus grows up to 60 cm high. For planting, find a bright spot in the middle or back of the aquarium. The plant is attractive as a solitary plant but can also be used in a group planting. The red tiger lotus can also be placed near green aquarium plants, where it comes into its own in contrast.
Planting tubers
A kind of navel can be seen on the water lily bulb. This is the lower side from which the roots will later sprout.

Tip
You can also let the tuber float in water for a while until the first leaves appear. This way you know for sure how the tuber is buried.
Planting young plants
If a tuber has already sprouted leaves and roots, it is also planted in the ground. Do this carefully so that the tuber does not fall off. If this happens, the plant will still take root and continue to grow. You can also plant the fallen tuber; it will sprout again.
Put the tiger lotus and pot in the aquarium
If the living conditions are optimal and the care leaves nothing to be desired, tiger lotus can multiply significantly. That's why smart aquarists plant them in a pot. This limits root growth and thus also the excessive sprouting of new leaves. With a pot, the plant can also be taken out of the water more easily, for example for upcoming cutting measures.
