Do martens eat rats?
Yes, martens eat rats, as rats with a size of 17-22 cm are among the prey of martens. This can help counteract a rat infestation, but martens can also cause damage and make noise.
The diet of martens
Martens have sharp, pointed teeth that they use to bite the throat of their prey. However, they also eat fruit and nuts, which is why they are omnivores. However, mammals prefer meat. They especially like to eat:

Size difference between rat and marten
Martens, like most animals, only eat animals that are smaller or at most the same size as them. Stone martens, the only species of marten that stays close to humans, have a head and body length of around 40 to 60cm, with males being slightly larger than females. Domestic rats, on the other hand, only grow to 17 to 22cm tall (without tail). Rats are therefore definitely among the prey of martens.
Pets in danger?
