If you missed the planting time in autumn and still don't want to go without blooming daffodils in spring, you can use pre-grown daffodils. You can find out what you should consider when buying and planting in this article.
How do you plant pre-grown daffodils?
Sprung daffodils can be planted outdoors from March. When purchasing, make sure that there are green leaves and buds that are still closed. Plants grown in pots should initially be left outside on warm days and brought indoors at night before they are finally planted.
What are advanced daffodils?
Pre-grown daffodil bulbs undergo aspecial temperature treatment, which means they bloom earlier than if they were planted in the garden. Placing them in a warmer greenhouse at the beginning of the year simulates an early spring, allowing the daffodils to sprout.
Who are pre-grown daffodils suitable for?
Advanced daffodils bloom earlier and are therefore ideal forimpatient flower lovers who want to bring spring into their home as early as February. Pre-grown onions are also better suited for cultivation in pots and boxes. Since they are less well protected from the cold there, they would freeze to death in winter if they were planted in autumn. Anyone who forgets to plant daffodil bulbs in the ground in the fall will also benefit from pre-grown daffodils.
What do you have to consider when buying pre-grown daffodils?
If you buy pre-grown daffodils from a garden center or florist in early spring, you should make sure thatgreen leaves are already visible, but the buds are not yet fully open. This way you can follow the development of the flower from the beginning and prevent the daffodils from blooming too early. Immediately after purchase, you can arrange the pre-struck bulbs in larger planters.
When should pre-grown daffodils be planted outside?
FromMarch the advanced daffodils can be planted outside. The tender plants are not as cold-resistant as daffodil bulbs that were planted in the ground in autumn. They should therefore not be put outdoors directly in January or February, but should remain in the pot. On warm days you can put them outside during the day and bring them back inside at night. If you plant the bulbs in the garden or bed in March, the bulbs should partially protrude from the soil and not be planted as deep as if you had already buried them in the fall.
