Like any other plant, the tulip also needs one or two care measures in order to bloom smoothly over a long period of time. Regular watering is one of the particularly important procedures for the sustainable preservation of the popular tulip.
How often and how much should you water tulips?
Tulips should be watered rarely and moderately, especially in summer, to avoid bulb rot. Regular but not excessive watering is recommended in autumn and winter. Waterlogging and locations that are too humid should be avoided.
How often do tulips need to be watered?
The tulip is a particularly easy-care plant and therefore does not require complex treatment. In the summer months it should only be watered veryrarely, as in the worst case the onion could start to rot. When tulip bulbs are so-called oversummer, they should not be placed directly next to plants that require increased water. In autumn and winter, regular but not excessive watering of the perennial tulip is also recommended in order not to weaken it unnecessarily.
What happens if tulips are watered too much?
Overwatering can harm any plant. This also applies to watering the tulips. These should under no circumstances be overwatered, as the onion can quicklyrot. This can no longer recover and dies. For this reason, waterlogging should be avoided at all costs. Therefore, ensure that your tulip bulbs are in a dry location so that they can germinate several times.
Tip
Overwintering in the pot makes watering the tulips easier
If you want to overwinter or oversummer your tulip bulbs safely and dry, you should dig them up after they have bloomed and store them in a large flower pot. This should be stored at a temperature of around 20 degrees. The cellar is particularly suitable for this. Since there are no neighboring plants in this pot, excessive watering can be prevented as much as possible.
