Watering the camellia requires a bit of sensitivity. The Camellia japonica must never dry out completely. However, it cannot tolerate waterlogging at all. How to water your camellia in a pot or bucket correctly so that it develops lots of flowers.
How do I water my camellia correctly?
In order to water a camellia properly, it should be regularly supplied with stale, room temperature and lime-free water. More water during flowering, less in late summer. Avoid waterlogging as it harms the plant.
Water camellia regularly
During flowering, the plant needs sufficient, but not too much, moisture.
From late summer onwards, give the camellia only a little water so that the soil never completely dries out. As soon as it is too dry, it will continue to grow, but will not produce any flowers.
As soon as the first flower buds appear, increase the watering rates.
Use the right watering water
Only use water that
- stale
- roomwarm
- lime-free
is. Rainwater is particularly suitable.
Tips & Tricks
The camellia will do well if, instead of watering, you immerse the pot in a bucket of water until no more air bubbles appear. Any water that then comes out should be poured off to avoid waterlogging.
