Beard flowers are frugal garden residents that don't need much care. Once they grow in a favorable location, you can enjoy the pretty ornamental shrubs with their eye-catching blue flowers for many years. Tips for the right location.
Which location does the bearded flower prefer?
The ideal location for bearded flowers is full sun, warm, dry and with loose, preferably alkaline soil. Avoid waterlogging, as the roots can rot if they are too wet. Slightly shady or acidic locations are also possible, but less optimal.
The right place for your beard flowers
- Full sunny
- Warm
- Not too humid
- Loose soil
The sunnier the better - in shady locations you will wait in vain for a beautiful bearded flower to bloom.
A dry soil is better than if the soil is too wet. Beard flowers cannot tolerate waterlogging because their roots rot if they are too wet. Make sure that irrigation and rain water can drain away easily.
Beardflowers prefer alkaline soil, but can also cope with slightly acidic locations.
Tip
Is your garden often infested by snails? Then plant a few of the non-toxic bearded flowers in front of endangered beds. Snails don't like the hairy leaves and their scent and can be driven away this way.
