Some species grow quite inconspicuously in the cracks of paving stones, others bathe entire meadows in a delicate sea of flowers. However, too much in the wrong place is always annoying - we're talking about foamweed.
How can you combat foamweed effectively?
To effectively control foamweed, you should weed and hoe it before it forms seeds. Alternatively, you can use it as a tasty wild herb in salads, soups and sauces or offer it as supplementary food for herbivorous pets. Avoid using chemical agents.
Meadowfoam weed actually rarely needs to be fought. It mostly grows in meadows. If these are mowed, the seeds of the meadowfoam cannot spread any further. If it has already grown elsewhere, simply pluck the young plants out of the soil. They can be easily removed along with their roots. Often just hoeing the ground is enough.
Eat instead of destroying
Foamwort can be described as a weed or as a useful wild herb. This is a question of taste and attitude. The foam herb is definitely edible. It tastes similar to cress and goes well in summer salads, soups and sauces or on a sandwich. It is also ideal for preparing delicious herbal dishes.
So use the foam herb in the kitchen at least occasionally, you will decimate it in your garden and not only have work but also benefit from it. Small quantities of foamweed are also suitable as supplementary food for rabbits and other herbivorous pets.
Manual destruction of foamweed
You don't need any chemical products to effectively combat the annoying foamweed in your garden - a hoe and your hands are enough. Because weeding and hoeing are the best and easiest means of combating all types of foamweed if they become a nuisance. If seeds have already formed, composting is often not enough to destroy them, as the seeds sometimes survive this process.
The most important things in brief:
- do not use chemical agents
- weeding and hoeing, if possible before seeds form
- tasty herb
- eat instead of composting
