In its North American homeland, the red maple (Acer rubrum) is considered one of the deciduous trees that plays a key role in the famous Indian summer. In fact, the typically five-lobed leaves, which are fresh green in summer, turn bright red in autumn - and the more intense the sun shines from the sky. For this reason, you should choose a location that is as sunny as possible for the red maple.
Where should a red maple be planted?
The ideal location for a red maple is sunny to light partial shade, as the autumn color is more intense with more sunlight. The soil should be loose, permeable, sandy-humic and slightly acidic to neutral. Avoid alkaline soils and waterlogging.

The beautiful, eponymous autumn color only appears in a sufficiently bright place in the garden, which is why you should always prefer a sunny to light, partially shaded place in the garden. Equally important is the soil, which should be as loose, permeable, sandy-humic as possible and slightly acidic to neutral - the red maple, like other types of maple, does not tolerate alkaline soils at all.
Tip
Planted specimens are best placed on a slightly sloping hill or something similar, so that any waterlogging cannot occur in the first place.
