You have different options for cultivating your lucky bamboo. The easiest thing to do, of course, is to leave it in the container in which you bought it. If you don't like this idea, you can also repot the lucky bamboo.
How should I plant my lucky bamboo?
To plant the lucky bamboo successfully, choose a bright, moist location without direct sunlight. Plant it in potting soil or hydroponics, make sure it has good roots and water it more generously for the time being. Lime-free water and later fertilizer promote its growth.
The choice of location
The lucky bamboo likes to be bright, warm and moist. Regardless of whether you grow it hydroponically, in a vase or in potting soil, give your lucky bamboo a bright but not full sun place with high humidity. If the air is rather dry, then spray the Lucky Bamboo regularly with lime-free water.
The choice of substrate
Whether you prefer to use expanded clay for hydroponics or classic potting soil is entirely up to you. However, it is better not to switch lucky bamboo that has previously been cultivated in soil to keeping it in water or hydroponics, as this is quite laborious and time-consuming.
More important than the choice of substrate is the right climate for good growth of the otherwise easy-care Lucky Bamboo and its he alth. This plant stops growing at temperatures just below 18 °C. If the temperature only drops below this for a short period of time, for example when briefly airing it out in winter, then this usually does not harm your lucky bamboo.
Preparation for planting
If you want to plant lucky bamboo that has been cultivated in water in the ground, then make sure that the stems are well rooted. If in doubt, wait some time before transplanting until the roots of your lucky bamboo are strong enough. Choose the pot high enough so that the plant stands securely in it. When grown in soil, lucky bamboo can grow up to one meter high.
Place the Lucky Bamboo in the ground about as deep as it was previously in the water. You can certainly plant several stems in one pot if the pot is of the appropriate size. The stems can be woven into pretty arrangements. But they should still be young and easy to bend.
Properly care for freshly planted lucky bamboo
Freshly planted, the lucky bamboo needs a lot of water. Make sure that the soil neither dries out nor is really wet. It is best to use stale water or rainwater for watering, and under no circumstances tap water rich in lime. If you have used fresh potting soil, your lucky bamboo will not need any fertilizer for the time being.
The most important things in brief:
- Planting in hydroponics or soil possible
- only plant well-rooted in soil
- After planting in soil, water a little more generously, but do not fertilize
Tip
You can plant your lucky bamboo in potting soil or hydroponics as desired. However, it should be well rooted for planting in soil.
