In addition to the brightly colored bracts with the interesting spadix, the intensely colored foliage makes the flamingo flower particularly attractive. If the leaves change color, this is not always a sign of aging.
Why does the anthurium get yellow leaves?
Yellow leaves on an anthurium can be caused by too little light, waterlogging, pest infestation or calcareous irrigation water. In order to save the anthurium, the location, watering behavior and substrate should be adjusted if necessary and pests should be eliminated.
Causes can also be:
- A wrong location
- Waterlogging
- Vermin Infestation
Too little light
Anturias thrive on the floor of sparse rainforests or as epiphytes on the jungle giants. As a result, they need a lot of light. However, the ornamental plants do not feel comfortable in the blazing sun or in the shade. If it has yellow leaves, the location is usually too dark. Then place the flamingo flower in a bright east or west window or use a plant lamp to compensate for the lack of light.
Waterlogging
Anthuriums prefer an air-permeable, acidic substrate with an additional drainage layer. If you consistently water too much or the water accumulates, root rot often occurs. As a result, the foliage changes color and the plant dies. Repot the flamingo flower quickly; it can often be saved this way. Water significantly less in the future.
Pest Infestation
Dry heating air promotes the spread of harmful insects such as spider mites and mealy bugs. If this goes unnoticed, the anthurium will have yellow leaves and will take care of.
Spider mites are so small that they are often difficult to see with the naked eye. If you mist the plant, the webs become visible.
Mealybugs and mealybugs can be recognized by a white or dark coating on the underside of the leaves, under which the pests hide, well protected from environmental influences. They secrete honeydew, which forms a sticky layer on the greenery. Brown leaf spots often appear as well, caused by sooty mold.
If you fight the insects with an effective home remedy or an insecticide, the anthurium will usually recover quickly. You can simply cut out yellow leaves.
Tip
Flamingo flowers don't like lime and also react to the change in pH with leaf discoloration. If you water the plant predominantly with tap water, it should be repotted annually or at least the substrate replaced.
