In order to present themselves impressively, the impressive Monsteras can do without floral decorations - but they cannot do without a regular supply of nutrients. To ensure that the exotic window leaf presents itself at its best all year round, fertilization plays a key role in care. When and how to do it right, read here.
How and when should you fertilize a Monstera?
To properly fertilize your Monstera, add liquid houseplant fertilizer to the water every 14 days from April to August and every 4 to 6 weeks from September to March. Use low-s alt, slightly acidic fertilizers and soft irrigation water.
Fertilizing instructions for your window leaf
There is a wide range of fertilizers for houseplants on the shelves in specialist retailers. The following overview provides an overview of which products have proven to be suitable for the window leaf and how they are administered:
Fertilization plan | April to August | September to March |
---|---|---|
Liquid fertilizer for houseplants | Add to irrigation water every 14 days | administer every 4 to 6 weeks |
Fertilizer sticks for green plants (e.g. from Compo (€3.00 on Amazon)) | press into the substrate in April and July | administer in November or December |
Osmocote exact with long-term effect | work into the substrate in April | |
Liquid organic fertilizer (e.g. Bio-Best) | 14-day in the irrigation water | every 4 to 6 weeks |
Please use fertilizers that are suitable for s alt-sensitive exotics and that take into account the desire for a slightly acidic pH value. Water before and after with soft rainwater so that the nutrients are absorbed without loss. For an older delicious window leaf, we would like to recommend the liquid organic fertilizer. If the Monstera deliciosa decides to produce flowers, you can eat the fruits without worry.
Pause after repotting
On average every 2 to 3 years, Monsteras are repotted in early spring into a larger pot with fresh soil. Since common substrates are pre-fertilized, please stop supplying nutrients afterwards. Experience shows that stocks are used up within 6 weeks.
Tip
In order to perfectly care for the fenestrated decorative leaves and at the same time supply them with nutrients, algae juice is an insider tip among Monstera gardeners. By regularly wiping the leaves with seaweed juice, they will retain a soft shine as well as valuable nutrients, vitamins and minerals.
