Is your log splitter running too slow for you? There are a few ways you can make your log splitter faster. But beware! Not all are permitted. Find out why your log splitter is running slower and how you can get it to run faster.
How to make a log splitter faster?
To make a log splitter faster, a differential valve can be used, which increases the splitting speed while maintaining the same pressure. However, installing a more powerful pump is dangerous and legally problematic.
The log splitter runs slower than before
If the log splitter suddenly runs slower, this can have various reasons:
- The wood splitter is missing oil or grease
- The oil filter is clogged
- Parts have become bent due to splitting wood that is too hard or large
- The wood splitter is dirty
So if this is the case, first check the oil level and the filter. Then remove the cover and clean your log splitter as best you can with a little oil, a cloth and, if necessary, a brush. Be sure to unplug your wood splitter beforehand! Take this opportunity to check the fit of all screws, as a loose screw can, for example, prevent the log splitter from working.
Make log splitters faster
Increasing the speed at which the log splitter splits wood is only possible to a very limited extent. There is discussion in internet forums as to whether the pump can be replaced with a more powerful one. In theory this has the desired effect, but in practice it is definitely not recommended. Hoses, valves, etc. are designed for a specific pressure. If this increases, they may not hold up and hoses may burst or parts may be thrown out explosively. This is extremely dangerous for you and other people present!
It is also advisable not to tinker with the log splitter due to legal issues. If an accident occurs due to a manipulated device, no insurance will cover the damage - neither personal injury nor property damage.
Make log splitters faster thanks to valve
Nevertheless, there is a way to legally and safely make your log splitter faster: The solution is a differential valve (€44.00 on Amazon). This ensures that the hydraulic valve extends faster while maintaining the same pressure and thus increases the splitting speed. However, the difference may not be as impressive as the valve being worth the purchase price of over 100 euros.
Tip
So it's best to be patient or just get a faster log splitter and sell the old one for a profit.
