How to make a garden swing from pallets?

To build a garden swing from pallets, use sturdy Euro pallets, plan and sand them, and possibly make individual parts according to building instructions. Then paint, hang securely and provide soft cushions.

…and maybe some soft cushions. But make sure you are allowed to sit on the new swing. It could well be that this comfortable swing is constantly occupied. The amount of work depends on what the swing should look like.

Where can I get suitable palettes?

You can order Euro pallets online, for example. Prices vary, as do the qualities offered. If you would like to build different things from the pallets, then it might be worth buying a set of 10. The pallets are offered new or used, 1st and 2nd choice, but also flamed and glazed or planed and sanded.

Disposable pallets are cheaper than Euro pallets, but are not as stable because they are usually made from pressed wood and may be protected against mold growth with poison. They are therefore not suitable for building a garden swing or rocking lounger.

How to build a garden swing out of pallets?

So that the wood is splinter-free and smooth, you should plan and sand the pallet(s). You can carry out this step before or after sawing the pallet if necessary. A swing is built very quickly and consists of the entire Euro pallet. All you have to do is hang them on a swing frame or on the tree(s) using sturdy ropes.

Alternatively, you can also make simple swing boards for a children's swing or a slightly more elaborate swing bench from a dismantled Euro pallet. You can certainly find corresponding construction instructions on the Internet. With soft padding, such a swing will quickly become a favorite place. Always ensure solid fastening.

The most important things in brief:

  • Use Euro pallets, not disposable pallets
  • Planing and sanding the pallet
  • possibly saw apart and assemble according to the building instructions
  • paint as desired
  • Hang the swing safely

Tip

If you only want to spend a short amount of time building your swing, then buy the Euro pallets already planed and sanded. This saves you this step.
