A privacy screen can make sense not only on the outer boundary of the property, but also next to the terrace or between different garden areas. Stone walls or privacy hedges do not always have to be considered; a privacy screen that is as practical as it is visually appealing can also be made from a wide variety of materials.
Which materials are suitable for making privacy screens in the garden?
Crafting privacy screens for the garden can be done using materials such as wood, willow branches or recycled materials such as glass bottles. Braiding techniques, trellises or creative arrangements create aesthetic privacy protection options that are often easy to care for and environmentally friendly.
Make a privacy screen out of wood
There are various ways to make an attractive wooden privacy screen. For example, logs that are actually used for a cozy fireplace can be stacked and fixed with appropriate side supports to form a rustic privacy wall. Such a privacy wall made of logs requires no maintenance over the years and can also serve as a nesting place and shelter for useful garden insects. You can also achieve a particularly interesting look if you insert thinly sawn tree slices vertically into a suitable holder made of wooden slats or structural steel mesh. With a few nails, you can quickly create a trellis from thin wooden slats or straight branches, which you can then grow with climbing plants.
Weaving privacy walls and fences from wood
A classic from the category of natural privacy protection are willow branches, which are freshly cut and inserted about 20 to 30 cm deep into the soil and usually take root very quickly. This living privacy wall does not require much care and can be woven together using an artistic weaving technique. But you can also weave or layer a privacy wall out of dead twigs and branches. To do this, simply insert a few stakes into the ground at a suitable distance along the desired privacy axis, between which you weave the still flexible cuttings from your trees. The straight rods of the following plant species are particularly suitable for this:

- Willow
Using the same technique, privacy screens can also be braided that are not anchored in the ground, but are instead inserted into a plant trough, for example, which can be moved later.
Spruce up the garden with recycled materials in bright colors
Very creative and quite aesthetic privacy protection variants can be made in the garden using various packaging that usually ends up in household waste. If different colored glass bottles are carefully drilled through the bottom side and threaded onto anchored iron rods, the result is an attractive privacy protection variant with interesting light effects due to the incident sunlight.

Some garden owners only realize after they have been installed that the long-awaited gabions can appear very naked as a stone wall in the garden. These can be greened over the long term with climbing plants such as ivy. In the short term, flower-studded plant garlands made of plastic can also be woven into the grid of the stone baskets for visual enhancement.
