The acacia enriches every garden with its beautiful flowers. Would you also like to cultivate the exotic tree? Then you will find out below how best to plant it.
How do I plant an acacia tree correctly?
To successfully plant an acacia, choose spring as the time. Plant the acacia in a container with sufficient volume, drainage, ventilation and a soil mixture rich in substrate. Ensure suitable wintering indoors and adequate watering.
Acacias do not tolerate cold
Subzero temperatures are very hard on the acacia tree. In summer, however, the deciduous tree impresses with an abundance of flowers. The acacia does not feel comfortable in the company of other plants. The little diva among the deciduous trees has special requirements when it comes to planting.
Better to plant in a pot
Since the acacia likes to stand alone, keeping it in a container is recommended. Especially since digging out when frost is approaching would be very difficult. After all, the deciduous tree requires overwintering indoors. Planted in a pot, moving in the cold season is easier due to better mobility.
Demands on the bucket
- sufficient volume (about twice, or better yet, three times the size of the root ball)
- Drainage so that irrigation and rain water can flow away
- Opening at the bottom for ventilation of the roots
- Do not use conventional peat soil
- Enrich the substrate with coconut fiber or lava granules instead
Wintering in a bucket
Bring your acacia indoors before the first frost to avoid it dying. Various locations are suitable here, but they all have advantages and disadvantages:
- dark and cool at 0-5°C (acacia sheds its leaves)
- bright and sunny at 10-15°C (temperatures that are too warm also lead to leaf loss)
- ideally high humidity (50% rising)
