Why does my Washingtonia Robusta have yellow leaves?
Yellow leaves on a Washingtonia Robusta can indicate insufficient light, incorrect water balance, nutrient deficiency or pest infestation. Move the palm tree closer to the window, adjust the watering behavior, fertilize carefully and combat any pests.
Does it get enough light all year round?
The fan palm needs a lot of light all year round. During the summer, especially if it is in a sunny location, it is bright enough. But in winter the Washington palm, which is not sufficiently hardy, has to hibernate in a frost-free winter quarters.

Is the water balance correct?
The soil of Washingtonia robusta should remain constantly moist. The top layer of soil is only allowed to dry out in winter. However, the preference for water does not go so far that the palm tree likes to stand in water. Waterlogging can cause yellow leaves just as much as a dry root ball. Adjust your watering behavior to the needs of the plant. It is better to water with smaller amounts, but more often. Water that is too hardy also leads to chlorosis.
Were nutrients optimally dosed?
The annual growth of the Washingtona palm can be up to 20 palm fronds. But if you want to transform your small palm tree into a stately, 3-4 m high specimen, you should be patient and generously provide nutrients. This is just as harmful as nutrient deficiency. Fertilize mainly from April to September with a green fertilizer, observing the manufacturer's dosage recommendation. Then the leaves stay juicy green.
Tip
Repot a young Washingtonia annually in spring or summer into fresh, well-drained substrate. Older specimens are repotted every 2-3 years. A palm tree with yellow leaves can also benefit from repotting.
Is there a pest infestation?
Sucking spider mites also cause a color change. The greatest danger is in winter when the palm tree is overwintered too warm and with dry heating air. If no other winter quarters with 5-10 °C are available, you should at least spray the palm tree regularly with water. Cut off infected fronds and combat the pests with a suitable product.
