If you want to dry your hydrangeas, it is important that you do not cut off the flowers with a sharp knife untillate summer. Young flowers are too delicate and instead of drying, they just wilt and turn brown. Older flowers are firmer and therefore better suited for drying. The easiest way to dry hydrangeas is to place them in a vase with a little water or hang them upside down. However, with both approaches the flower color is lost. If you want to preserve the hydrangea blossom and its color, use glycerin, silica gel or s alt.
What do I use hairspray for on my dried hydrangeas?
Hairspray can help extend theshelf life of dried hydrangeas. While dust quickly accumulates on dried flower bouquets, hairspray helps to make it easier to remove later. It creates a smooth surface on the dried flowers, making it easier to shake off dust. Hairspray also improves the stability of the hydrangea flowers and ensures a particularly beautiful shine. Make sure the flowers are completely dry before spraying them with hairspray. When spraying, maintain an approximate distance of 50 centimeters. Apply several thin coats, allowing the flowers to dry completely in an airy place after each coat until the smell of the hairspray has disappeared.
