In the wild, the protected daphne usually grows in slightly shady, moist, but well-drained locations. This does not apply to the varieties offered in stores. Almost all Daphne cultivars for the garden are completely unproblematic in terms of location.
Which location does daphne prefer in the garden?
The ideal location for daphne in the garden is a sunny to shady place with slightly moist, permeable and calcareous soil. Waterlogging should be avoided to ensure optimal growth.
Daphne grows almost everywhere
You can plant daphne almost anywhere in the garden. Whether in a sunny, semi-shady or shady location - the ornamental shrub reveals its full splendor when it is in bloom.
The soil should be moist but permeable. Daphne does not tolerate waterlogging. Slightly nutritious, calcareous soil is ideal for daphne. A layer of mulch provides new nutrients and prevents the soil from drying out.
Daphne looks very good as a solitary plant in the front garden or as a small demarcation from other garden areas. If possible, the ornamental shrubs should not be grown in gardens with children and pets because of their toxicity.
Tip
You can also keep daphne in a bucket. Then, however, the ornamental shrub needs more care because it cannot support itself through its long roots.
