Winter linden tree thrives in temperate climates and is absolutely hardy. Their light requirements are not as high as summer linden trees. It is therefore also more common in northern and eastern Europe in mixed deciduous forests and as roadside plants.
Which location does the winter linden tree prefer?
The ideal location for a winter linden tree (Tilia cordata) is partially shaded or sunny, with moderately dry to fresh, slightly acidic to alkaline soil. Deep soil with good water supply is preferred and temporary drought is well tolerated.
The winter linden tree (Tilia cordata) is a species of deciduous tree from the linden genus in the mallow family. On the one hand, it loves warmth, but on the other hand, it is absolutely frost-resistant. Compared to the summer linden tree, it needs less light. The distribution area of the winter linden tree is very large, its location requirements are rather low:
- partially shaded or sunny location,
- the soil can be moderately dry to fresh, slightly acidic to alkaline,
- deep soil with good water supply is optimal,
- Temporary dryness is well tolerated.
Tip
Both the crown and the roots of the winter linden tree develop in the shape of a heart. The shape of the leaves is also reminiscent of small hearts.
