If you can clearly see the damage to a pond liner, it often seems too time-consuming to drain the entire pond in order to carry out the repair in the dry. You can find out here whether you can stick foils under water and when this is possible.
Can you repair pond liner under water?
PVC pond liners can be repaired underwater with special underwater adhesives, provided they are compatible with fish and plants. The adhesive strength of PE films is weaker, so it is advisable to drain the pond and carry out the repair in the dry.
Underwater glue
Some glues are also suitable for use underwater. But they can only be used for PVC pond liners. With other types of liner, you should definitely drain the pond before repairing the pond liner.
After the repair, you must also leave the garden pond empty for at least 1 - 2 days so that the repaired area can dry sufficiently.
Pay particular attention to the following points when using the adhesives used (€19.00 on Amazon):
- that they are expressly suitable for use underwater
- that they are compatible with fish
- that they are shown to be plant-friendly
Tip
If you have PE film in your pond, you should avoid using it underwater. Although most PVC adhesives are in principle also suitable for PE films, the adhesive strength is often significantly weaker. In this case, it is better to drain the pond and repair in the dry.
