Having your own sauna in the garden is the dream of many fans of he althy sweating. You don't even have to build a special garden sauna for this; a Finnish bath can also be integrated into a “normal” arbor. This is, once a few basic requirements are met, much easier than you would probably think at first.
How can you convert a garden house into a sauna?
To convert a garden house into a sauna, you need a sufficiently large house with two rooms, sufficient wall thickness and electricity for the sauna heater. Create a windowless sauna area with loungers, a stove and dim lighting, while the second room serves as a relaxation area.
The requirements
- A sufficiently large garden house, preferably with two separate rooms, can be expanded very easily.
- Alternatively, you can add a wall or integrate a sauna cabin in a house with the appropriate floor space.
- A wall thickness that is not too thin makes sense so that the cozy warmth does not evaporate on cold winter days.
- Electrical cables for the sauna heater are of course also required.
The installation
If both rooms in the arbor have a window, a small renovation is necessary first. The room into which the actual sauna is integrated should definitely be windowless. With a little technical skill, this can be easily achieved with wooden garden houses.
The sauna area
When building the interior of the sauna room, everything that is necessary for relaxed sweating is now installed:
- Sauna loungers at different heights,
- the sauna heater,
- Shelves and hooks for the bathrobes or the ladle,
- Thermo and hygrometer,
- pleasantly dim light that creates a wellness atmosphere.
The relaxation area
Since there is already electricity in the garden house for the sauna, the relaxation area can also be equipped in a contemporary way.
- Comfortable deck chairs with soft cushions invite you to relax.
- Electric heating ensures a comfortable room climate.
- Various drinks are available in a panty kitchen.
- A small music system creates a pleasant atmosphere.
- Curtains on the windows and the view of your own greenery are just the icing on the cake of the relaxed I.
Cooling down after the sauna session
Create a small, hidden area in front of the garden house sauna. Here you can integrate a stable garden shower in which you can refresh yourself undisturbed, protected from prying eyes. When planning, keep in mind that deciduous trees lose their leaves in winter, the time of year when the sauna is used very often. A wooden privacy wall is the better choice.
Tip
Depending on the renovation work required (sanitary facilities, electricity), a new building permit may be required. The responsible municipalities provide information about this.
