There are many home remedies for moss, but not all of them are really recommended. Some harm plants and/or animals, others attract ants or other unwanted insects. Soda is also popular for controlling moss and is easy to use.
Can you remove moss with soda?
Soda can be used effectively to remove moss from paving slabs, garden furniture and fences. Leave a solution of 1 tablespoon of soda and 1 liter of hot water overnight and then brush thoroughly. However, soda should not be used on lawns as it also damages lawn grasses.
However, you should not use soda on your lawn as it acts as a weed killer. As such, it attacks not only the moss but also the lawn grasses. Other agents such as sulphate of ammonia are more suitable here.
Removing moss from paving slabs
You can use soda to remove moss from garden paths or patios. Pour a liter of hot water over a tablespoon of soda. You then spray this solution onto your paving slabs and let them soak overnight.
The next day, brush the plates thoroughly. If necessary, rinse again with clear water. By the way, the soda eye also helps against algae and on garden furniture or fences. You should scrape or scrape areas with a particularly thick layer of moss to some extent beforehand.
Prevention of moss in the lawn
Be sure to choose a high-quality seed mix for creating your lawn. These contain specially bred lawn grasses that grow particularly densely. Cheap mixtures, on the other hand, consist largely of so-called forage grasses, which grow quickly but are less dense.
The right lawn care
Fertilize and mow your lawn regularly. If drought persists, it should also be watered. This means the grasses thrive and have strong roots. This keeps moss and clover largely away from your lawn. However, the prerequisite is that the lawn receives enough light and is not too moist.
