In autumn, otherwise popular ladybirds can become a nuisance when they look for overwintering places in large numbers. Sometimes they can also end up in residential buildings en masse. Double windows in particular are a welcome shelter for some groups of beetles.
How do I remove ladybugs that overwinter in the window frame?
To get rid of ladybugs that overwinter in window frames, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a gentle collection bag or spray the affected area with a mixture of water, camphor and menthol to drive away the beetles.
How to get rid of ladybugs on the window
If a swarm of ladybirds wants to hibernate in the space between the panes of your double frame window, they will annoyingly fly into the living room every time you open the window. Apart from the mutual disturbance, such an overwintering place is actually suboptimal for the beetles because it is too warm. It can prevent their important, physically automatically occurring, energy-saving hibernation.
What you can do to get the bugs outside is the following:
- Use the vacuum cleaner carefully
- Apply camphor-menthol-water mixture
With the vacuum cleaner method, you pull a sock into the suction tube as a gentle collection bag and suck the animals at the lowest level in a small area of the opening gap in the double window, which is otherwise closed with fabric, for example. Then you can release them far away.
Spraying the affected area with a mixture of water, camphor and menthol can drive away the beetles without causing them major harm. They find the acrid smell of these substances unpleasant.
