As a subtropical climbing plant, bougainvillea is not hardy. For this reason, the exotic potted plant must overwinter protected. The date for clearing out is particularly important because even light night frost will kill the triplet flower. Read here when it is safe to put out your bougainvillea.

The bougainvillea can be safely put out in May, after the Ice Saints. Place the plant in a bright window seat at around 15°C in April and get it used to the protected partial shade outdoors during the day from mid-April.

You can display the exotic bougainvillea inMay. Because the exotic potted plant cannot tolerate night frost, you are on the safe side with an appointment after the Ice Saints. After a frost-free, cool overwintering of a triplet flower, this short phase of acclimatization is recommended:
- In April, move the bougainvillea from the cool winter quarters to a bright window seat at around 15° Celsius (e.g. in the winter garden or bedroom).
- Ideally from mid-April onwards, spend the day outside in the protected partial shade and put it away again in the evening.

Repot and cut bougainvillea before putting it out
Shortly after clearing out, your bougainvillea will begin its flowering period. Repotting and pruning prepare the exotic triple flower for lush blooms.
