Forsythias are not only very popular in the garden as harbingers of spring. Forsythia branches also add decorative accents in the house. The branches in the vase can be made to bloom as early as Christmas.
How do you keep cut forsythia branches fresh in the vase for a long time?
To keep forsythia branches blooming for a long time in the vase, cut the branches diagonally and place them in lukewarm or hot water. Then place them in a vase and change the water regularly, cutting the stems again and again.
Forsythia as “cut flowers”
Forsythias cut in winter last quite a long time in the vase. If you have a little patience, you will first experience the blossoming of the golden yellow flowers.
After the bouquet fades, it turns green. The leaves develop from the faded buds.
Often the branches in the vase even have roots. You can plant the shrub as an offshoot in the garden. However, the roots are very sensitive and must be treated with appropriate care.
Cutting branches for Christmas
It is an old custom to cut forsythia branches for Christmas on St. Barbara's Day, December 4th each year.
The branches are cut diagonally and placed in lukewarm water. From time to time you need to re-cut the stems at the bottom.
Shortly before Christmas the first flowers open and you will soon have a beautiful yellow blooming bouquet in your room.
Put forsythia in the vase as an Easter bouquet
The delicate green of the forsythia leaves is a very nice background if you want to decorate your Easter bouquet with lots of colorful eggs.
Forsythia branches also look great in a vase in combination with colorful spring flowers.
Cut branches where the flowers have already turned brown. Remove the residue very carefully so as not to damage the leaf buds.
This is how forsythia branches bloom for a long time in the vase

In winter, place the branches in lukewarm water overnight immediately after cutting. They are then cut diagonally and placed in the vase.
After cutting, place spring shrubs briefly in hot water so that the water-conducting channels open. The water needs to be changed more frequently. Cut the branches again straight away.
