How can I reduce the noise level of my lawnmower?
If a lawn mower makes loud noises, a damaged blade bar may be the cause. By replacing the lawnmower blade, you can reduce the noise level. Make sure to screw on the new lawnmower blade according to the manufacturer's instructions and clean the lawnmower thoroughly.
Damaged knife bar increases the noise level
The blades of a lawnmower are not prepared for a violent impact on stones and similar obstacles. A single collision is enough to seriously damage the cutter bar. The result is loud rattling noises and strong vibrations. Of course, the mishap does not mean that you have to throw away the entire lawnmower. By replacing the chipped knife bar, you will solve the problem.
New lawnmower blade lowers the noise level - this is how the change works
To replace the damaged blade bar, you need a new lawn mower blade of the appropriate type (€16.00 on Amazon) and a wrench. On the petrol mower, turn off the fuel tap and pull the plug from the spark plug. Please unplug the electric mower and remove the battery from the cordless mower. How to change the lawnmower blade correctly:
- Tilt petrol-powered lawn mower with the carburettor upwards
- Put on gloves and block the knife bar with a piece of wood
- Use the wrench to remove the old lawnmower blade including washers
- Hold the knife and remove the piece of wood
- Remove the knife bar with a twisting movement
Place the new lawn mower blade on the screw hole. Using two fingers, first tighten the screws on the washers so that they no longer fall down. Then take the wrench to tighten the screws. Ideally, use a torque wrench to screw on the knife exactly according to the manufacturer's instructions. For safety reasons, we recommend using new screws and washers.
Finally, put the lawn mower upright again. Open the fuel tap on the petrol mower and reattach the spark plug connector. Put the battery back into your cordless lawnmower.
Tip
If a collision between the lawnmower blades and an obstacle can be ruled out as the cause of the noise, you should clean the lawnmower thoroughly. Also include the air filter and the spark plugs, as deposits of dirt particles increase the noise level of the engine.
