Flower pots made of clay or terracotta often look boring on the windowsill or terrace. Creativity is required here. With different materials and a little imagination, any flower pot can be covered and become an extraordinary eye-catcher on the terrace or windowsill.

Which materials are suitable for gluing flower pots?

In order to cover a flower pot creatively and individually, materials such as adhesive film, glossy paper, felt, wooden discs, cork, pebbles or broken tiles are available. The adhesives required vary depending on the material and a clean work surface is recommended.

Materials for crafts

Instead of gluing your pots, you can also paint the pots. Various materials are available for gluing:

  • Adhesive film
  • glossy paper
  • Felt
  • Wooden slices
  • Cork
  • Pebbles
  • broken tiles or mosaic pieces

There is a special adhesive for each material (€6.00 on Amazon), such as glue, all-purpose glue, superglue, hot glue, tile adhesive, etc. Also available are scissors, a cutter knife, a ruler, possibly a spatula, a pencil required for marking and a clean work surface. Get your work equipment ready and you're ready to go.

A colorful tin can as a flower pot

Empty food cans can be easily upcycled into flower pots. Apart from the cleaned can, all you need is a pair of scissors and a nice piece of adhesive foil.

  1. First remove the glued paper and its adhesive dots.
  2. Spread out the adhesive film and place the can on top.
  3. Use a pen to mark the required slide size.
  4. Cut out the piece of foil precisely.
  5. Remove the protective film and stick it on the can. Use a soft cloth to press the film on to avoid wrinkles.

Plant a small plant in the colorful flower pot and you have a great eye-catcher on the windowsill. If you want to use the can for longer, press a few holes in the bottom of the can with a pick. Then there will be no waterlogging.

A tile or ceramic decoration on the flower pot

Disused tiles, old ceramic vases or similar are broken into small pieces and glued to clay/terracotta pots with superglue or tile glue. Leave a small gap between the individual elements, which will later be grouted with grout after it has dried. Now the newly decorated pot just needs to be polished and planted.

Decorate a flower pot with wooden discs or branches

Unusually shaped branches or wooden plates cut from a thicker branch are also ideal for individually designing a flower pot. It is best to glue the wooden parts on using a hot glue gun. Superglue also provides the necessary strength here. After the wood has been glued on and everything has dried thoroughly, the pot can be painted with clear varnish from the spray can.
