Bird baths can offer water to wild birds and be a feast for the eyes of us humans. After all, we will see them every day, especially in summer. Crafting with mosaic tiles is fun and challenges your creativity. The simple shape of the potion means that even beginners can create a mosaic.
How do I make a mosaic bird bath myself?
To make a mosaic bird bath yourself, you need a plastic bowl, mosaic stones, mosaic glue, joint compound, brush and mop. Lay out a pattern, glue on the bowl, let the glue dry, apply the grout, wipe the stones clean and let the waterer dry.
Required materials
With a little skill and imagination you can build the bird bath yourself. A wide and several centimeters deep saucer for flower pots or a comparable bowl serves as a craft base for a potion. Both can be made of plastic. It is best if the base is plain and monochrome. You will also need the following craft materials (€19.00 on Amazon):
- Colored mosaic tiles of your choice
- white mosaic glue
- Joint
- Brush
- wiping cloth
Test sample
Before you start gluing the mosaic tiles, you should test out the desired pattern. This way you can see whether you like it or whether corrections make sense. Since the inside of the coaster plays the main role in a bird bath, only this is covered.
Instructions for the mosaic
- Now stick the mosaic stones on the inside of the coaster. To do this, use the glue according to the instructions. Most of the time it has to be applied generously.
- Wait for the glue to dry completely. Otherwise the stones can quickly slip. The drying process can take several hours.
- Mix the joint compound according to the instructions.
- Distribute the joint compound evenly over the entire surface using the brush. The mosaic tiles can be brushed over.
- Let the grout dry a little and then wipe the mosaic tiles clean with a cloth.
- Let the bowl dry for about 48 hours before using it as a waterer.
Set up birdbath
Now it's time to set up the bird bath. Roam your garden looking for a suitable spot. This is important because the animals have to feel safe there. An incorrectly placed bird bath will not be accepted. Therefore, pay attention to the following criteria:
- choose a clear location
- Birds should be able to recognize approaching danger in good time
- Bushes and trees are desired
- However, they should be at least 3 m away from the drinking trough
- ideal is an opportunity to raise the potions
Tip
Clean the drinker regularly and change out unclean water. Otherwise, a disease can quickly spread among the birds.
